About this course

Most AML/CTF control failures happen in two places: what you know about your customers, and what you do about their transactions. Part 2 is about overseeing both, and about the point where they meet, because in practice they are the same problem viewed from two directions. Two modules, treated in depth. The first works through the customer lifecycle: oversight of initial CDD, beneficial ownership and control, customer risk rating, politically exposed persons, screening and targeted financial sanctions, enhanced due diligence, what happens when ECDD cannot resolve the risk, ongoing due diligence and detecting change, backlogs and how to prioritise them, and why exit is a risk decision rather than a substitute for due diligence. The second covers transaction monitoring as a framework rather than a system, why an alert is not a suspicion, reasonable grounds for suspicion, the internal escalation pathway, information silos, investigation quality, the SMR decision and approval pathway, documentation, submission, tipping off and confidentiality, and why filing a report does not end the risk decision. Part 2 assumes the foundations covered in Part 1 and opens with a bridging lesson recapping them. It is the right course for Compliance Officers whose main exposure is customer and transaction operations, and for anyone overseeing a CDD, screening, monitoring or investigations function.
